![]() ![]() You are forced to either use an item, or force your monster's Stamina to depletion. Unfortunately, other than using items, there is no way to regain Stamina optionally. Rather than each move having a set number of uses, each move costs a certain amount of Stamina to use, depleting that monster's overall Stamina during battle. Stamina System : A Stamina system replaces the standard power point (PP) system of historical creature capture games, but it feels half-baked, and is not particularly an improvement over PP. The core of the game is battle, and in this is Nexomon's weakest area, leaving much to be desired. It suits the game well, it contributes to the mood of each town and location. Each of the biomes are brilliantly illustrated with highly appealing, modern, saturated pallets, but which flirt with retro map and sprite design. The look of the game was one of the things that hooked me into the first Nexomon game on mobile, years ago, and I'm pleased to see that Extinction delivers the same visual style. I eagerly look forward to exploring new zones, to rustle up what I can find in the grass in that area.īright colors, well-designed maps, streamlined animations, quirky and varied character designs, and a seamless combination of pixel and hand-drawn artwork create a visual landscape unique to the Nexomon series. Not every monster is a winner, but I have found the vast majority of them to be cleverly designed, beautifully illustrated and animated, and hugely appealing. The meat and potatoes of any creature capture game is the monster design - and Nexomon: Extinction does not fail to deliver! With a score shy of 400 unique designs, the Nexopedia is absolutely bursting at the seams with appealing, creative, fun monsters to collect. By the fifth, fourth-wall-breaking joke, I was getting a little bit tired of that flavor of humor. This game is tongue-in-cheek and very self-aware - in fact, erring on the side of too much so. All of the characters - including NPCs - are dynamic, and I often find myself chatting to everyone in town just to see what they have to say. If you've played the original Nexomon, you can look forward to the same quality of dialogue in Extinction. ![]() ![]() The story contributes positively to the world-building of the game, in a way that feels completely natural. While this game stays true to the fundamental concepts of a creature collection game, it absolutely expands upon the existing "go to x town, defeat y boss" in a unique and refreshing way. Without offering any spoilers, I love the story line. (I am reviewing the Switch version 1.03). Wanted to go ahead and share my current thoughts on it. I picked up Nexomon: Extinction on Switch last week. Low effort, low context posts may be deleted.
